5 Easy Nova Scotia Hikes for Families

September 14, 2025

Nova Scotia is full of family-friendly hikes that are perfect for an afternoon adventure! Here are 5 kid-approved hikes to get you exploring, making memories, and maybe even spotting a few surprises along the way:

1. McMaster Mill Falls

This short trail near Greenwood, is perfect for little legs. A beautiful walk through the woods on a well-maintained path plus lots of rocks to climb over! This trail includes a beautiful waterfall view and places to let kids splash by the water’s edge. Turn your trip into a magical adventure and become Time Travel Detectives by following an Earth Adventures story!

2. Ovens Sea Caves

Ah, the Ovens. This one is a classic. It’s not really stroller friendly as it has stairs throughout so bring a carrier for your littlest explorers. Spend the day in the park by bringing a picnic to have lunch overlooking the ocean, pan for gold on the beach or take a walk around the campground.

3. Leif Erikson Trail

Located in Yarmouth, this is the perfect trail for a family who wants to wander along the shoreline, watch boats drift by, or peek at tidal pools. Bring binoculars! Time your visit right and you may even be able to go inside of the lighthouse.

4. Bohaker Trail, Delaps Cove

This one of our favourite hidden gems in the Annapolis Valley is short, easy, and magical. Coastal views plus a waterfall, what more could you ask for? We like to bring a lunch or some snacks and make it a slow afternoon.

5. Ettinger Falls

Ettinger Falls is a great trail for little ones in strollers or even bring a bike, at least until you get to the side trail to go down to the falls. The main trail is a dirt road and the small hill to the bottom of the waterfall is easy enough that our 4 year old was able to do it on her own.

Just because you have younger kids, doesn’t mean you get to miss out on adventures! If you’re ready to explore more hidden gems like these in Nova Scotia, grab my Family Fun in NS map.
